South Bank $74.88 Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. South Bank is an area of London, England located immediately adjacent to the south bank of the River Thames. It forms a long and narrow section of riverside development that is within the London Borough of Lambeth and partly in the London Borough of Southwark. It developed much more slowly than the north bank of the river due to adverse conditions, and throughout its history has twice functioned as an entertainment district, separated by a hundred years of use as a location for industry. Change to the current use of the South Bank began in 1917 with the construction of County Hall at Lambeth and the Festival of Britain in 1951 redefined the area as a place for arts and entertainment. It now forms a significant tourist district in central London which stretches from the Design Museum in the east to the London Eye in the west. A series of central London bridges connect the South Bank to central London, including the more recent Golden Jubilee and Millennium pedestrian bridges. "National Bank Notes from Frederick Md." provides the reader with a basic understanding of national bank notes, and explores in detail the currency and bank officers from Frederick, Maryland. This non-fiction highlights years of work by the author including dozens of interviews and hundreds of research hours. Mercer County $21.39 Originating almost a quarter of a century prior to the Civil War, Mercer County, West Virginia was named for General Hugh Mercer, a Revolutionary War hero. The county has been a crossroads for many events, including the Civil War and the establishment of an industrial economy after the war ended. When two mighty railroads, the Norfolk & Western and The Virginian, began shipping coal and timber to the once-agrarian area, Mercer County blossomed into one of the five most highly populated counties of the Mountain State. In 1671, colonial explorer Robert Fallam described what would become Mercer County in his journal as aa pleasing thoa dreadful sight to see the mountains and hills as if piled one upon another.a Despite extreme challenges, residents of Mercer County developed a spirit of pride, independence, strength, and genuine fellowship that today makes the region a warm and friendly place to call home. As legend holds, even the notorious outlaw Frank James was so overwhelmed by the hospitality he received in Mercer County in 1882 that he decided to pass on robbing the Bank of Princeton and, instead, robbed a bank in a neighboring county. |

Caswell County $18.49 Caswell County was born in 1777 during the American Revolution and named to honor Richard Caswell, the first governor of North Carolina. Lying in the north central part of the state, Caswell's rolling countryside abounds with soil well suited for many crops, particularly tobacco. It was tobacco and a slave-based plantation economy that generated substantial wealth and political influence before the Civil War. During a period in the early 19th century, both the speakers of North Carolina's Senate and House of Commons were from Caswell County. The resulting wealth and influence produced institutions and structures unsurpassed elsewhere in the state. This included the bank of the county seat, Yanceyville, which before the Civil War was one of the best-capitalized banks in the South. Fortunately, many of the historic buildings remain, and Caswell County today is a popular destination for heritage tourism. The county boasts two National Historic Districts, one national landmark, and numerous structures on the National Register of Historic Places. |

Logan County $19.78 As one of Kentucky's oldest counties, Logan County has a colorful history. Residents found religion at the Red River Meeting House during the Second Great Awakening. However, the land once known as Rogue's Harbor has been wrought with lawlessness. Visitors to the county today can tour the bank in the county seat of Russellville where the infamous Jesse James started his robbing spree in 1868. Tourists and residents alike are regaled with stories of a dueling Andrew Jackson and countless corrupt elections. Four men went on to become governors, while a fifth attempt fell short despite an infamous campaign. All of these things are documented in Images of America: Logan County along with the less controversial events in history: the everyday farmers who raised their cash crop of tobacco to contribute to a growing community and the establishment of the most southwestern of the Shaker communities at South Union. |

During the World War I era, Macon County boasted over a dozen hamlets and villages, including Warrensburg and Maroa, which both enjoyed opera houses and busy train stations. Maroa was home to John Crocker, who became a famous banker, while nearby Forsyth produced Black Bart, the infamous bank robber. And today, agricultural and industrial workers depend on one another, growing and processing the corn and soybeans that have made Macon County a self-sustaining economic engine. |

Cabell County $21.38 Established in 1809, Cabell County is located in West Virginia's Mid-Ohio Valley. When rail tycoon Collis P. Huntington pushed the tracks of his Chesapeake & Ohio Railway across the mountains from Virginia into Cabell County, he founded the town that would become the county's great metropolitan center. Business and industry soon began to rise, and Cabell grew into one of the Mountain State's busiest, most populous regions. This dramatic history of Cabell County begins with the arrival of the area's first settlers and continues into the 21st century. Introduced are James Holderby, Peter Cline Buffington, John Hunt Oley, and the other venturesome souls who set in motion the forces that made Cabell County the thriving place it is today. An informative text and 200 vintage photographs recreate key historical events, including the day when the James Gang robbed the Bank of Huntington, the sagas of Barboursville and Milton, the early days of Marshall University and its spectacular growth and success, and the strange but true story behind the creation of Ritter Park. Readers also gain a feel for life in past eras as they witness the paddlewheelers that plied yesterday's Ohio River and the steam locomotives that chugged their way through the county's history. |

Manatee County $21.37 The area known as Manatee County opened for settlement at the close of the Second Seminole War in 1841. This was due to Congresss passage of the Armed Occupational Act of 1842, which allowed settlers to claim 160 acres of land at a cost of $1.25 an acre if they were able to bear arms and live on the land for five years. It wasnt long before settlers appeared up and down the beautiful Manatee River, led by Josiah Gates and his family on the south side. Many of his friends had suffered losses with the collapse of the Union Bank in Tallahassee and were anxious to join him. The opulent shores on both sides of the river quickly enticed other settlers to make their claims, offering a cornucopia filled with some of Floridas best resources for growth and prosperity. This volume provides a pictorial account of those lives, which were caught in the struggle to carve out a niche against all odds in a place that faced epidemics of yellow fever, malaria, typhoid, and a third uprising of the Seminole Indians. In 1861, Florida seceded from the Union, which was followed by the Civil War with a Union victory in 1865 that brought an end to slavery and plantation ownership. |
