When thinking about water safety for kids, the statistics can be extremely scary. Many people will tell you how few seconds it takes for a child to drown, and how little water, but far fewer explain what steps to take to prevent such a tragedy. It is impossible to keep an eye on a child 24 hours a day, however, it is still possible to prevent accidents by following some of these important safety and home security tips this summer. Today many home security systems can detect flood and fire as well as intruders, and are monitored 24 hours a day by security personnel. Reacting quickly is important in an emergency situation, but it is always far more important to prevent a tragedy whenever possible.
Inside water security is a big concern for families, and mostly about remembering to always take certain safety precautions. For example, the biggest and most widely used example is to never leave a child alone, not even for a second while in the bath. Going to answer the phone, or running off to fetch a towel can provide just enough time for a child to be in real trouble. Dangers include not only drowning, but burns, scalds, slips, and trips. In order to prevent the latter, always install safety bathmats and shower mats in and around the tub, and enforce with children how important it is to stay on them. Also thinking of bathroom safety, keep the toilet lid down, and use a child safety lock with small children in the house. Many children become curious, or reach down to fetch an item which has fallen and are unable to upright themselves again. If the shower or tub has a plug, keep it well out of the reach of children to prevent them from drawing a bath while not under direct supervision.
Maintain good home security both inside and outside by never leaving a receptacle meant for collecting water lying around. This is especially important for those with water in them, but should also be kept in mind for those already emptied. A child is likely to see what you have used a bucket or other container for, and mimic the behavior, creating a potentially dangerous situation. Such receptacles also tend to have chemicals or cleaners, which could cause skin irritation or be consumed by the child, resulting in poisoning.
There are many precautions to take when the family has a swimming pool in the yard. It is absolutely necessary to install a perimeter fence around any kind of pool or Jacuzzi, complete with a gate and child safety lock. It may be a good idea to also install a home alarm system that sounds each time someone enters the gate, or even enters the perimeter of the fence, sent up on a motion detector system. This will alert you to not only your child's presence around the pool, but that of neighborhood children. Never leave standing water around the house, such as a half-empty kiddie-pool, and fence off areas where drainage or rainwater gathers naturally. Consider creating a safe, fenced-in play area for your child if there are many water or drowning hazards around the home or in the surrounding neighborhood.
Think twice about water safety this summer with the help of security professionals like those at ADT. From Adt alarms to helpful security tips it's great to have a security expert on your side.

Jefferson Bible & the Complete Sayings of Jesus Christ $19.81 In 1804 Thomas Jefferson decided to study the gospels to see if he could distill the essence of Jesus' teachings into a concise book that could be quickly read and easily understood. The Jefferson Bible is the result, offering valuable insights into the teachings of Jesus Christ and into the mind and beliefs of Thomas Jefferson. Like the Jefferson Bible, The Complete Sayings of Jesus Christ is an attempt to edit the four gospels into a consistent account, in this case focusing on the words of Jesus. Many readers arrive at the end of the New Testament with but a hazy picture of Christ and a sketchy outline of the times. This book places all of Jesus' saying in chronological order, stripping away the context that was provided by those who were not Jesus thus revealing a new context. |

The Jefferson Bible, Smithsonian Edition (Hardcover) $39.08 The Jefferson Bible, or The Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth as it is formally titled, was Thomas Jefferson`s effort to extract what he considered the pertinent doctrine of Jesus by removing sections of the New Testament containing supernatural aspects as well as perceived misinterpretations he believed had been added by the Four Evangelists. Using a razor, Jefferson cut and arranged selected verses from the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John in chronological order, mingling excerpts from one text to those of another in order to create a single narrative. After completion of The Life and Morals, about 1820, Jefferson shared it with a number of friends, but he never allowed it to be published during his lifetime. The most complete form Jefferson produced was inherited by his grandson, Thomas Jefferson Randolph, and was published in 1895 by the National Museum in Washington.Once published in black-and-white facsimile by the Government Printing Office in 1900 as a gift for new members of Congress, the Jefferson Bible has never before been published in color in its complete form. The Jefferson Bible, Smithsonian Edition is an exact facsimile reproduction based on the original copy in the Smithsonian collections. The Jefferson Bible, Smithsonian Edition is as beautiful an object as was so painstakingly crafted by Thomas Jefferson himself. |

The Adams-Jefferson Letters: The Complete Correspondence Between Thomas Jefferson and Abigail and John Adams $23.97 An intellectual dialogue of the highest plane achieved in America, the correspondence between John Adams and Thomas Jefferson spanned half a century and embraced government, philosophy, religion, quotidiana, and family griefs and joys. First meeting as delegates to the Continental Congress in 1775, they initiated correspondence in 1777, negotiated jointly as ministers in Europe in the 1780s, and served the early Republic--each, ultimately, in its highest office. At Jefferson's defeat of Adams for the presidency in 1800, they became estranged, and the correspondence lapses from 1801 to 1812, then is renewed until the death of both in 1826, fifty years to the day after the Declaration of Independence. Lester J. Cappon's edition, first published in 1959 in two volumes, provides the complete correspondence between these two men and includes the correspondence between Abigail Adams and Jefferson. Many of these letters have been published in no other modern edition, nor does any other edition devote itself exclusively to the exchange between Jefferson and the Adamses. Introduction, headnotes, and footnotes inform the reader without interrupting the speakers. This reissue of "The Adams-Jefferson Letters in a one-volume unabridged edition brings to a broader audience one of the monuments of American scholarship and, to quote C. Vann Woodward, 'a major treasure of national literature.' |

Jefferson Airplane Takes Off $6.99 This reissue of TAKES OFF contains the complete album in both mono and stereo. In order to preserve the integrity of each complete album, there is a 10 second gap between the two versions. This CD issue restores the original last song on TAKES OFF, "Runnin' 'Round This World", deleted shortly after the original release of this album in 1966.Jefferson Airplane: Marty Balin, Signe Toly Anderson (vocals); Paul Kantner (guitar, vocals); Jorma Ludwik Kaukonen (guitar); Jack Casady (bass); Alex "Skip" Spence (drums).Recorded at RCA Victor's Music Center Of The World, Hollywood, California .Includes liner notes by Jeff Tamarkin and Ralph J. Gleason. This newly remastered 2003 deluxe edition contains bonus tracks.Jefferson Airplane: Marty Balin, Signe Toly Anderson (vocals); Paul Kantner (guitar, vocals); Jorma Ludwik Kaukonen (guitar); Jack Casady (bass); Alex "Skip" Spence (drums).Originally released on RCA Victor (3584). Includes liner notes by Jeff Tamarkin. There is a reason why the Jefferson Airplane was the first nationally renowned proponent of San Francisco rock. As much as they bucked establishment values, the sextet offered a musical mixture of California folk-rock and white blues that was nevertheless easier to digest than the sounds of their contemporaries. TAKES OFF, their debut recording, made before Grace Slick joined the band, goes to great lengths to establish them as the obvious next step on a pop staircase of the Beatles, Byrds, and Rolling Stones.Signe Anderson and Marty Balin's distinctive, folky harmonies give TAKES OFF a lived-in warmth and a loved-in counterculture vibe that defined the times. Covers of John D. Loudermilk's infamous "Tobacco Road" and The Youngbloods' '60s anthem "Let's Get Together" may have symbolized their community's alienation from their parents' values, but the Airplane versions were less calls to arms than sympathetic pats on the back. However, Jorma Kaukonen's boppy R&B guitar leads and Jack Casady's free but steady bass lend the Airplane's debut some heavy rock muscle. |

Jefferson $21.32 It is 1784, Thomas Jefferson has just arrived in Paris to represent his fledgling nation in the court of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette. Paris is a city adrift in intrigue and social upheaval, swirling scandal and sensual temptation, a city where Jefferson--a man of reason and revolution--will experience a different kind of turbulence. She is an exquisite blond with violet eyes and a foolish husband, and from the moment Maria Cosway appears, Thomas Jefferson is wholly captivated. Suddenly the least impulsive man in Paris is acting like a schoolboy. To William Short, his young secretary and protege, this reckless behavior sparks an obsession to discover the "real" Jefferson. Impeccably researched, compelling and deeply provocative, Max Byrd's "Jefferson" offers a rare glimpse behind the secretive face this complex Virginian showed the world. Through William Short's eyes, we peer into the long private and public life of the future president, watching the forces that shape the young Jefferson, as he molds his dream of an American nation with fellow patriots Ben Franklin and John Adams. We see, too, as he struggles to choose between political ambitions and the life of the heart. |
