Many Americans are passionate about the things that they own and find valuable. This is especially true for those people that take the hobby of collecting very seriously and spend a lot of time and money doing it. Many of the big time collectors may travel all across the country and even the world to find certain items that they want to add to their collections. This article will talk about three items that people enjoy collecting like baseball cards or Topps baseballs cards as well as coins and stamps. These are some of the most popular items that people collect.
The first collectible that has been a popular one is collecting rare baseball cards. This tends to attract those people that have a love for the game of baseball and know all of the players from years ago and which ones are more valuable than others. Baseball cards hit a high point in the 1970's with record sales being sold to men and young boys all over the country. As technology and computers emerged in the 1980's, baseball cards had dwindling sales. Currently, the most expensive baseball card is a 1909 Honus Wagner card that sold for over 2 million dollars and had been owned by professional hockey player, Wayne Gretzky.
The second very popular thing to collect and has existed as long as there have been human beings is the collection of coins. Currency is something that can be traced back hundreds and hundreds of years and the older the coin and more rare it is, the more coveted it is by collectors. The most valuable coin is the 1933 Gold Double Eagle and it went for 7.5 million dollars. There were over 400,000 of these coins minted with the 1933 date but none of them were released because President Roosevelt made changes in the currency at the time of the Depression. He decided to take America off the gold standard and it became illegal to have any gold coins too. This obviously, created an unbelievably hard to find and rare coin and that is why it fetched so much money.
One of the most popular things to collect is stamps as they continually change and are varied depending on what part of the world it came from. The rarest and ultimately the most expensive stamp is from 1856 and is a 1 cent Black on Magente from British Guiana. It became rare because it sold out immediately before they could make more so there was only one set that was ever made. It seems like the rarer the item, the more valuable and expensive it becomes for collectors. This one cent sold for 935,000 dollars at an auction.
People that are serious collectors of rare items such as baseball cards, coins and stamps enjoy the hobby and the challenge of finding an item that they do not have or getting the best deal on something that is hard to find. Other people just enjoy finding as many different kinds of the item that they collect too.
Connor R Sullivan recently sold his old baseball cards to a collector for a nice little profit. His son decided to sell his Topps baseball cards to a collector.

The Rare Coin Score $13.21 Parker, the ruthless antihero of Richard Stark's eponymous mystery novels, is one of the most unforgettable characters in hardboiled noir. Lauded by critics for his taut realism, unapologetic amorality, and razor-sharp prose style--and adored by fans who turn each intoxicating page with increasing urgency--Stark is a master of crime writing, his books as influential as any in the genre. The University of Chicago Press has embarked on a project to return the early volumes of this series to print for a new generation of readers to discover--and become addicted to. This season's offerings include volumes 7-9 in the series: "The Seventh," " The Handle," and "The Rare Coin Score." In "The Seventh," the heist of a college football game goes bad, and the take is stolen by a crazed, violent amateur. Parker must outrun the cops--and the killer--to retrieve his cash. In "The Handle," Parker is enlisted by the mob to knock off an island casino guarded by speedboats and heavies, forty miles from the Texas coast." The" "Rare Coin Score" features the first appearance of Claire, who will steal Parker's heister's heart--while together they steal two million dollars of rare coins. "Parker . . . lumbers through the pages of Richard Stark's noir novels scattering dead bodies like peanut shells. . . . In a complex world he] makes things simple."--William Grimes, "New York Times" "Whatever Stark writes, I read. He's a stylist, a pro, and I thoroughly enjoy his attitude."--Elmore Leonard "Westlake knows precisely how to grab a reader, draw him or her into the story, and then slowly tighten his grip until escape is impossible."--"Washington Post Book World" "Donald Westlake's Parker novels are among the small number of books I read over and over. Forget all that crap you've been telling yourself about "War and Peace" and Proust--these are the books you'll want on that desert island."--Lawrence Block Also available from the University of Chicago Press: "The Hunter""The Man with the Getaway Face""The Outfit""The Mourner""The Jugger""The Score""" |
