Getting the Best Priced Hammered Coins
With demand far outstripping supply when it comes to old hammered coins, getting the best price can often be a real challenge for avid collectors and those that are buying hammered coins with a view to selling them and making a profit. Whatever your intention after you have bought your hammered coin, ensuring that you get the best deal is essential.
Getting a fair price is obviously imperative for buyers, however no more so than ensuring that they do not get ripped off by buying something which is either not authentic or not as valuable as their initial research or presumptions would suggest. That is why you always need to go to measures to ensuring that you are buying the real deal. Often collectors and dealer will have experience in this area and will know what to look out for. If you do not, then you need to be seriously considering the trustworthiness of your source. You should ask them about the origins of the piece, how it came into their hands, if they offer a refund and any other questions that you feel could be useful in working out whether or not you are getting what you are paying for. If they are unable to offer any guarantees then you should be naturally sceptical and be prepared to walk away unless you are certain that the piece is as valuable as the price tag would suggest.
Collectors of hammered coins often complain that they are difficult to come across, which means it is difficult for them to broaden their collection. This is the case for a number of reasons, not least the liquidity of old hammered coins as an asset, and the intrinsic value that they have as a piece of history. One way to overcome this is to buy from someone who does not know as much as you do, or does not appreciate their value quite as much! If you go to car boot sales and attend auctions at your local auction house then you can be sure to be there when the right hammered coin comes along. Be sure to act cool, and not appear too desperate, and you could find yourself walking away with a real bargain.
The same applies when it comes to online auction websites such as Ebay. Because they are selling to such a broad audience, a specialist like yourself can be sure to pick up a good deal. You should also consider contacting dealers in your area, and dealers online, and letting them know what you are looking for and how much you are willing to pay. You may find, that although you are not willing to pay market prices, they contact you in instances where they are not able to sell the item right away. They may also decide to sell to you at times where they are looking to improve cash flow to make another purchase. Be prepared to wait, and you can be sure to pick up a great bargain from time to time. Knowledge is everything- so pick your particular period and study it well. Trying to master all can lead to expensive mistakes!

Fifty Pence (British Coin) $111.53 The British decimal fifty pence (50p) coin often pronounced fifty pee was issued on 14 October 1969 in the runup to decimalisation to replace the ten shilling note. Despite the coins novel shape, there was initial confusion amongst some members of the public, with the coin being mistaken for both the old half crown and the new ten pence piece. The coin is minted from an alloy of 75 copper and 25 nickel. Between 1969 and 1997 the coin weighed 13.50 grams and had a diameter of 30.0 millimetres. In 1997 the coin was reduced in size to weigh 8.00 grams with a diameter of 27.3 millimetres. Apart from the reduction in size the design remained essentially the same (although the original is no longer legal tender). The coin is not circular but is an equilaterally curved heptagon to aid identification. The sides are not straight but are curved so that the centre of curvature is the opposite apex of the coin. In other words, whilst the coin is of a shape which doesnt have a fixed radius about any point, it does have a fixed diameter as a minimum dimension across the face of the coin. The Alchemists Coin $5.99 Jane Weston, resurrection of the lost Druid race, has lost her best friend's soul to the dragon of the Celtic underworld. Her brother, Jack, has inadvertently stumbled into a power that allows him to become magical as he drains the life from the girl he loves. He can't touch her, hold her hand, or kiss her without killing her slowly. Jane, hunting for the elusive, yet pervasive alchemist, Ulrich O'Connor, finds that the only man on earth who can help them is a four-year-old boy. He leads her to Connor, a disturbingly attractive, teenage highlander, and Julien, a charming and brilliant French university student, all protgs of Ulrich O'Connor, the Elder. In an odyssey abroad, they teach her all she would ever need to know to steal a soul from hell and manipulate the delicate balances of Light and Dark that hover on paradox. They crimp a few of her straight laces, smudge her sharp lines of black and white, wrinkle the fabric of her neatly pressed universe, awaken her vagabond soul to the power it holds and, between the four of them, twist the faces of her love into all of its complex shapes. To steal her friend's soul from the Dragon of Annwyn, Jane will have to deceive the dark princess of the Tuathan, Maeve, and then risk her own soul with only four-year-old Ulrich to guard the coveted power of its crystal. What she doesn't know about the boys, who have risked their lives to save her, could cost Jane something more precious than her soul. But in the magic of paradox, to win, you must lose. |

Threepence (British Coin) $95.59 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The threepence or thrupenny bit was a denomination of currency used by various jurisdictions in England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, until decimalisation of the pound sterling and Irish pound in 1971. It was also used in some parts of the British Empire (later known as the Commonwealth), notably Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Before decimalisation brought about a new currency with new coinage, the sum of three pence was pronounced variously THROOPence THREPPence or THRUPPence reflecting different pronunciations in the various regions of Great Britain. Likewise, the coin was usually referred to in conversation as a THROOPnee THREPPnee or THRUPPnee bit. The three pence coin expressed in writing as 3d first appeared in England during the fine silver coinage of King Edward VI (15471553), when it formed part of a set of new denominations. Although it was an easy denomination to work with in the context of the old sterling coinage system, being a quarter of a shilling, initially it was not popular with the public who preferred the groat (four pence). Hence the coin was not minted in the following two reigns. Africa: Another Side of the Coin $45 Africa is a lost cause.' This is a cynical view held widely in the West, in much of the world and even in Africa. Many people in the old European colonial powers - and not only the dwindling band of 'old Africa hands' who served in the colonies - are in despair, lamenting maladministration, corruption, civil and inter-state wars, poverty, famine and the seemingly unstoppable march of AIDS. And all in a great continent with abundant human and natural resources. The other side of the coin is that hope is beginning to dawn as Africa's plight is recognised by the Africans themselves and its vital strategic, political and economic importance in the age of globalisation is gaining universal appreciation. An 'African renaissance' may seem far-fetched but there is perhaps light at the end of the tunnel. This is the backdrop against which Andrew Sardanis's fascinating story is set. It begins with his work as a journalist in Cyprus - on the receiving end of British colonialism - and moves to Northern Rhodesia where he played a leading role as an international businessman and in the politics of independence leading to the new nation of Zambia. He was at the heart of Zambia's political and business development, and always a sympathetic but critical observer and adviser, both in government and in business, also a close but objective friend of leaders including Kenneth Kaunda. |
