We have the loony that was introduced in 1987 to us Canadians, which by the way have a comical way of poking fun at ourselves. Who can make great jokes other than a Canadian on a government wage. I mean not just making jokes about themselves, but goes shamelessly on to make a joke so far as to throw the whole country's money system under the bus when they put a loon (duck) on the first one dollar coin. This was to replace the dollar bill back in the day. What was wrong with the dollar bill? I don't know eh, I guess it was because it was paper or something and does not last as long as a loony.
My question is, what was wrong with the silver dollar coins with a canoe on them? Again, I don't know other than, it started off as a pretty good joke, and then took a loon (duck) dive in thought to the bottom of the lake from there. This, of course, was done on purpose so it would be easy for the comical incompetent new immigrants arriving in Canada to fit with the rest of the comedians in Canada and become true Canadians. You see, they are spelled so closely alike Comedians-Canadians. That must have been their thinking, eh. Someday, I am going to be so smart that I can get a taxpayer wage too. Anyhow we all got the joke, for now we have our two dollar coin, coined phrased as a Toonie, even though there is some nasty mean looking polar bears on the coin. They must have been trying to repair the damage done by the Loony.
The USA has the powerful, green back dollar and a real cool eagle. The Brits have the pound to pound people with some real weight, and Canada has the Loonies, Toonies and a beaver for our 5 cent worth, eh? It would better fit if we had a two cent beaver coin in that case, but something went a wee bit off the rails there with the loony in the first place. I don't know about the Euro, but I hear the mice find it eatable, so put it in a bank instead of in an old sock stuffed in the mattress. Besides, it just may help with your back problems to not have the lump in the bed. So the loony won't be eaten so it is now a collectible coin to add to the ones stash of coins. I love Canada and for I am a true blood Canadian, if you could not guess, eh.
