Centennial Year

Jeff Gordon was born on August 4, 1971 to Carol Ann Bickford and William Grinnell Gordon, who supported their son in his chosen career. Jeffery Michael "Jeff" Gordon is an American professional racecar driver. He is one of the co-owners of the #48 Lowe's sponsored team. He also owns the #24 team and holds the equity stake. His achieved many awards during his tenure. He is a four-time winner of Sprint Cup , also known as Nascar, and is also a three-time Daytona 500 winner.

Gordon began his racing career at the age of 5 by participating in quarter midgets. By the age of 6 he had set 5 track records and won 35 main events. He was also awarded the USAC Midget Car Racing Rookie of the year in 1989. At the age of 20 he became the youngest driver to win the USAC Silver Crown.

He then moved on to build career with the Busch Series. He did this with the help of Hugh Connerty who was a partner in Outback Steakhouse. He later went on to driving Ford Thunderbirds and Bill Davis Racing and he earned the rookie of the award title in his first year as a Busch driver. He also set a NASCAR record by capturing 11 poles in one season.

He began driving #24 full-time in the 1993 Winston Cup season. However, in that season many doubted his ability to compete at such level at such a young age, 'cause of his tendency to drive too hard and crash. But his success also led to a shift in the paradigm, letting younger drivers participate in the series.

He tasted his first career victory at NASCAR's longest and most demanding race in 1994. He went on to win his first NASCAR Winston Cup Championship the next year by battling Dale Earnhardt who was the 7-time and defending champ. In 1997 he also became the youngest driver in history to win the Daytona 500. In 1998 he set another record by pocketing 13 victories and winning for the third time the Winston Cup.

With his longtime crew chief Ray Evernham not in team, he was for some time not so successful as he should have been and people started doubting his caliber again but once more he proved them wrong in 2001 by winning 6 races and his 4th Winston Cup championship becoming the third driver to do so. But during the year 2002-03 he could not repeat his success again. He was also going through the divorce procedures with his first wife. But later he came back on his form despite many obstacles. In 2010 he went on to make his 600th career NASCAR Sprint Cup start in the 2010 Lifelock.com 400 at the Chicagoland Speedway and finished 3rd. He also raced at Carfax 400 and Emory Healthcare 500 and remained 2nd in the point's standings.
