50 Cent's new Video Game "Blood On The Sand" begins with 50 Cent at a concert in a fictional middle eastern country, he doesn't get paid (10 Million!) for the concert, and boy, it's pretty interesting as all of a sudden 50 Cent has a shotgun pressed up against the promoters face demanding his money.
Not the usual Rapper behaviour! Instead, the promoter gives 50 an ancient skull that is embedded with diamonds, which 50 takes and calls it even. From then on out it's a whirlwind of action as the skull gets stolen by some nefarious terrorists which has 50 cent after them.
The amazing thing about Blood On The Sand is that the graphics are very high quality, the scenes move by so fast though that you hardly feel like you've even left your hat somewhere. Blood On The Sand plays fast and furious. Luckily the makers of the game have not made it too demanding. The story is your usual mash-up of characters, the terrorist faction, the mercenaries and a hot chick that stole the skull in the first place, it sort of all gets put together but you can do yourself a favor and ignore the plot, since it is mostly there to get 50 and one of his buddies (you can choose one of three, I chose DJ Whoo Kid - "Whoo, It's all clear, Sheesh!" is what the Whoo Kid says.) through the many action sequences.
The gaming AI isn't that scintillating, the enemies you will face do go down rather easily, luckily there are a whole lot of enemies to kill, so in the end it works out very well for Blood On The Sand. The game has a good feel of Arcade/Vegas like action to it... that it's Rapper 50 Cent who is the main character does take a bit getting used to, as he isn't fictional as most video game heroes are, still he does look good in the game. Big and strong 50 Cent looks like a wealthy bouncer with a grudge throughout the game. He spends much time complaining to the various bad guys about how he's been treated, etc. And coming from a 'Star' that's not too far out of character!
The game is a lot of fun really, you smash things all the time and get money and 'Rep' points and you are often called on to perform special kills to receive money... you have to complete these kills in a certain time to get the bonus, and it isn't very hard... such as shooting 2 snipers from a faraway window in 2 minutes time, etc. So there are incentives throughout the game. You smash boxes to get gold, rings and jewels and also there are about 5 or so Posters and Targets to find through every level, that is, if you want the bonuses.
The weapons are pretty functional. I waited quite a while to buy my first weapon which was the super magnum called The Ravaging Bull, In fact it cost $90,000 I used it exclusively until I got the rapid fire machine gun, The Fabrique MG, for $120,000. Lastly I realized I needed a Dragon SUV for sniping, and bought that as well, but you don't really need to buy special weapons at all, you could use the cheap handgun all the way through, but that wouldn't be much fun.
You do have to use the "Rocket Launcher", you know as well as I do what it looks like, and yeah, you gotta load it quite a lot.
Shooters do get to be alike somewhat with helicopters to shoot, and B.O.T.S. has just about every shooter recipe in it's wiring. There is the Truck race through the city. There is the Helicopter scene where you've got to shoot the bad guys below. There is the "Palace" to go through and, oh yeah, the "Theater" every shooter must have a Theater! So Blood On The Sand has covered the bases for sure. But you really don't care if you are laid back while playing 50 Cent's game, it's a good time at the Arcade and that's not all that easy to find in Games these days, as so many game companies and game creators vie for Top Dog Status, often losing the idea of Fun.
Blood On The Sand will rev you up all right, and I think that the makers of this game have done a good job in bringing Arcade Action back to games. The question is then will 50 have my Back?
Well, sure, as long as you don't cross him! "No one crosses me, and lives!" 50 Says.
