A first-person shooter is a video game genre that is focused on wielding weapons from a first-person point of view. Usually, the player is in control of a "good guy" who is wiping out a set of "bad guys." These games have been around since the 1970s and have since then been a popular genre for multiplayer gaming.
When assuming the role of a character in a first-person shooter, the player is literally seeing the world through this character's eyes. This is meant to immerse the player in the game he or she is playing. The player is usually given multiple weapons as the storyline plays out. The gamer will start with one weapon, such as a handgun. Then, he or she will be given a shotgun or a rifle. These more powerful weapons are made available so the player can succeed in battling the bosses later in the game.
The game that has been credited with putting first-person shooters on the map is Doom. This game was released in 1993 and broke ground with its 3D-esque graphics and interactive violence. People were used to games where they used the character to collect coins. Now, they could literally blow an alien's head off and see blood in Doom. This caused a lot of controversy among parents and the media. Many gamers within the industry consider this to be the greatest video game of all time.
The most influential first-person shooter after Doom was GoldenEye 007. This game, based on the popular James Bond film, was an instant hit when it was released in 1997. It was one of the first games to incorporate the use of a sniper rifle to pull off headshots. The multiplayer elements of this game set the standard for future first-person shooters.
In 1999, Medal of Honor was released. Its influence is still being felt today. This long-running series was the first to take place in the World War II era. Since then, many other franchises have been built around this premise.
Halo: Combat Evolved was released in 2001 and launched of the most successful first-person shooters in video game history. Halo helped sell millions of Xbox systems for Microsoft and was better known for its groundbreaking multiplayer than the game's solo campaign.
The year 2004 saw the release of Half-Life 2. This iconic game cost $40 million to create over a five year period. This game has sold nearly 8 million copies since it was released and it is highly regarded as the finest first-person shooter since GoldenEye 007. What set it apart from the competition was its unique puzzles and well-told story. Two expansion packs for this game have been released.
First-person shooters have become synonymous with video games. Some are about running and gunning while others are about amazing adventures. If you are a video game fan, chances are that you have a soft spot for one or more of the games mentioned above. Either way, you are probably waiting with baited breath to see what tomorrow will bring.

1943 Steel Cent $71.7 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The 1943 steel cent, also known as a steelie, was a variety of the U.S. onecent coin which was struck in steel due to wartime shortages of copper. Due to wartime needs of copper for use in ammunition and other military equipment during World War II, the US Mint researched various ways to limit dependence and meet conservation goals on copper usage. After trying out several substitutes (ranging from other metals to plastics) to replace the thenstandard bronze alloy, the one cent coin was minted in zinc coated steel. It was struck at all three mints; Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco. Coins from the latter two sites have respectively D and S mintmarks below the date..
