Did you know...

Colombia won two world titles ( 1947 and 1970). In 1971, Colombia won a silver medal at the World Cup in Cuba. This South American country also won the gold medal at the 1946 Central American & Caribbean Games in Barranquilla. Like many other Latin American countries, Colombia has famous baseball players: Luis Castro, Carlos Rodriguez, Manuel Penaranda, Andres Florez and Humberto Vargas. Carlos "Petaca" Rodriguez was probably one of the most famous baseball players from Colombia and Latin America.

The U.S. men's baseball team won the 2007 World Championship in Taiwan. In front of 10,000 fans inside the massive Tienmu Stadium, the United States defeated Cuba.

Baseball is the national sport in Nicaragua, a Central American country. Under the direction of Julio Sanchez Reynoso, Nicaragua was semi-finalist at the 26th Olympiad in Atlanta (Georgia,USA).In the Olympic competition, Nicaragua defeated Australia 10-0. The Nicaraguan players were: Oswaldo Mairena, Omar Obando Varela, Astrudes Flores, Bayardo Davila Montiel, Norman Cardoze, Julio Cesar Osejo, Jose Ramon Padilla, Anibal Vega, Erasmo Baca, Henry Roa, Nemesio Porras, Jorge Luis Avellan, Freddy Zamora, Sandy Moreno. This Latin American country has won many international medals ( Pan American Games, World Championships, Intercontinental Championships, Central American & Caribbean Games).

This sport will be a part of the Olympic Games for the fifth time at the 29th Olympic Games Beijing 2008...

The United States was world champion in 1973. Final standings:

1. USA

2. Nicaragua (host country)

3. Puerto Rico

8. Costa Rica

9. Guatemala

10. Mexico

11. West Germany

Ben Sheets is one of the best baseball players in the Olympic Games. He led the United States to the finals of the Olympic Games in 2000. Under his leadership, USA defeated Cuba 4-0. When Ben returned home to the United States, he was treated like a national hero. A game for Ben is a passionate experience...

The United States won the gold medal at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, where baseball was a demonstration sport.

Baseball is the second most popular sport in Colombia. Ironically, Colombia did not qualify for the Olympic Games. This South American nation won the World Championship in 1965. Final standings:

1. Colombia (host country /gold medal)

2. Mexico (silver medal)

3. Puerto Rico (bronze medal)

4. Dominican Republic

His next essay is called "The Dictator and Alicia Alonso". He is an expert on foreign affairs. Alejandro is the first author who has published a world-book encyclopedia in Latin America.

He admires Frida Kahlo (Mexican painter), Jose Gamarra (former president of the Bolivian Olympic Committee ,1970- 1982), Hillary Clinton (ex-First Lady of the USA), and Jimmy Carter (former President of the USA). Alejandro said: "The person who I admire the most is Jose Gamarra . He devoted his professional and personal life to sport. Jose played an important role in the promotion of Olympism in Bolivia -it is one of the Third World`s poorest countries- and Latin America. His biography is interesting". The sportspeople he most admire is Olympic volleyball player Flo Hyman. "This African-American sportswoman is my idol... "
