Bronze Coins

Numismatics is basically a study and collection of different type coins. We often come across very rare and old coins in a museum or displayed in an exhibition. Their antiquity and scarcity makes them precious. Some collect and sell coins as a profession, however, few involve into it as a hobby. It is one of the unique hobbies. The type of collection of a numismatist differs from person to person. Some love collecting coins of the ancient era, some are interested in foreign coins while other finds commemorative coins good to collect. We get to learn a lot from this hobby.

1. Culture and Civilization:

Ancient coins of several dynasties reveal the life of that era from the various designs minted on the coins. We come to know what kind of metal was more prevalent in that particular era. The date mentioned below tells about the time when the coin was minted. The words written on the coins tell about the language of the people of that period. In nutshell, we get a brief idea about the culture and civilization of ancient periods.

2. Important Days and Personalities:

Commemorative coins are very useful in making us aware about the important days and national personalities. Several coins are minted on the remembrance of national days and national heroes, politicians, social workers etc. Going through the commemorative coins keeps us abreast with these important things.

3. Metal Knowledge:

Different coins are mostly made from different metals. A dedicated numismatist keenly studies each and every coin from its denominations to the types and ratio of metals used in it. It makes him familiar with variety of metals like gold, silver, copper, aluminum, bronze etc.

I too love collecting Indian Commemorative coins. I possess a good collection of about one hundred and seventy coins.

Art Students of the Emunah Academy for Women Jerusalem have been invited to submit designs and the winning designs have been chosen out of those submitted. First in the series was the Abraham and Sarah Medal that was introduced in our last promotion. This came in a Set Presentation Box designed to hold all the four medals in the series. Each of the medal versions of this medal are still available and the whole series may be ordered on a standing order basis. We now proudly present the Joshua Medal. The ox signifies the strength of Joshua and the horns of the antelope his majesty and courage. Joshua was the leader who succeeded in his mission despite the hardships and quarrels of the people. In face of the enemy nevertheless he remained steadfast like the horns of the antelope . These two aspects of his personality are expressed on the two sides of the medal. Obverse:. The ox on the obverse side signifies the strength of Joshua. Joshua was the leader who succeeded in his mission despite the hardships and quarrels of the people. Reverse:. We are told in the Book of Genesis that Rebecca went to inquire of the Lord not Isaac but Rebecca herself and she gave birth to twins Jacob and Esau. When Isaac was elderly and his sight was failing he asked Esau the firstborn to prepare tasty food and intended to bestow many blessings upon him. Rebecca sensed danger in this for the future and took immediate action by calling Jacob and preparing him to serve his father with the tasty food and receive the blessings before the arrival of his brother. Esau never forgot and never forgave Jacob for stealing the blessings. Again Rebecca was forced to save her beloved son Jacob from the anger of Esau. Her decisive actions were to save the people of Israel for all time. Rabbi Eliyahu Marciano. Obverse:.
