It was in ancient times where the exchange of goods and services was made through the barter system as the need for money was felt. People have exchanged one or more products which they had for other products they needed. This system was essentially arbitrary and exchange amount or value of each commodity could not be accurately determined or decided. Consequently, different countries have adopted their system of commodity money, which was gradually transformed into a system of representative money. Traditionally, dealers in gold and silver has followed the practice issuing receipts to applicants who apply to the commodity money deposited. Gradually, changes occurred and therefore did banknotes or paper money. First use of paper money was made in China during Song Dynasty, but it was not a substitute for commodity money. The notes were issued the first official language in Europe by Stockholm Banco in 1661 and have been used for coins.
