Air Force One，a huge success

a reference to Air Force One, the plane that carries the President of the United States. The Air Force One are sold in three different styles. The first of many "air" shoes to come, the Nike Air Force One were released in 1982, and nearly 25 years later, this style is as popular as ever. The two most common are low-cut and mid-top.

 

Being the first basketball shoes by Nike to use air technology, Air Force One get their name from the airplane that is most commonly used to fly the President of the United States from one location to another, the Air Force One. After it released Nike selected six basketball players to endorse, which method made this kinds shoe deeply rooted in basket sports.

 

Nike also produces a high-top model, which is usually harder to find. The mid-top and high-top Air Force 1's come with a velcro-securable strap; the mid-top strap is secured to the shoe while the high-top's strap is movable and removable. Although the shoe comes in many different colors and color schemes, the most common Air Force 1's sold are solid white (often referred to as "white-on-white") and solid black colors.

 

Hoping to reflect on Air Force One's own sense of style, many celebrities often have these air force ones shoes custom made to be unique for themselves. At least one well known NBA player chose to wear these shoes throughout his career, wearing the always popular high top AF 1's made by Nike. At one point there was even a song that was made popular by rapper Nelly who recorded the song "Air Force Ones".

 

The air force one shoe is also quite popular among hip hop fans who believe that these shoes provide them with individuality. Changing the inside color of the air force ones was done quite often simply to have a pair that was unique to their own certain personality and style.

 

Nike Air Force 1s were originally considered the favored shoe of inner-city youth, then hip hop artists and streetball players. Rapper Nelly & Salvador and his group, St. Lunatics, collaborated on a 2002 single entitled "Air Force Ones" about the shoes.

 

Another identifying characteristic of an Air Force 1 shoe is a small, removable medallion that is secured to the bottom of the laces but has holes on either side so it can be removed by sliding it off of the air jordans.

 

The medallion is engraved with the inscription "AF-1", with the year "'82" inscribed below it, and has historically been made out of a silver-colored metal (perhaps pewter). Its original design was more circular, but after a redesign for the Air Force 1's 25th anniversary in 2008 the medallion is now rectangular.
